On Saturday we got up nice and early to try and beat the traffic on our way to go and see the Skagit Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon, WA. It was a Saturday, third weekend of the festival and it was supposed to be beautiful outside. All of that means TONS of traffic.
We saw this on the way.
If you can’t read that, it says “FRESH AIR” and that is a dumptruck. If you don’t think that is even a little bit funny, then you might need to read more of my blog to pump up the levels of humor in your body. You might have a slight deficiency.
We were successful in our pursuit of beating traffic and made it to the field before it officially got “busy.” We made sure we had the proper foot gear on b/c let me tell you, tulip fields are muddy with capitol “M”!
Kyle told us he had to wear the camo uniform so he would be 100% “mud-proof”. Smart kid. Paul wore basketball shorts and Army boots. Just wait, everyone will be doing it soon.
For some reason Lisa and Mom seemed to be very confused about where the tulips were even though there was a giant field right in front of us. And the guy in the background is yelling b/c he hates tulips and all things beautiful.
You ready to see some pretty-ness? I am by no means a “photographer” although I love taking pictures. I REALLY love taking pictures at the tulip festival b/c it is easy to get some good quality “art” and it makes me feel like I am a better photographer than I really am.
These are some of my faves from this year.
Three colors in one? Yes please!
“Row” shots are some of my faves. Hard to get without people in the background b/c there are tons of people there milling around, but every once in a while you can snag one.
Here is the the “get the camera close to the ground and take an ‘up’ picture”. Guaranteed to produce some quality “art”
I’ve seen one tulip of a different color mixed in with others (like one yellow tulip in a whole field of red) but I’ve NEVER seen one tulip petal that is a different color before! And its only half the petal?! Beautiful!
LOVE this one…yellow and purply…now that is what spring is all about!
Lots of daffodils there tooo….
Which one of these is not like the others? Either he is super tall or they are super short!?
Girl time! Me, mama, and Lisa. (Apparently I missed the “wear red” memo)
Paul must have gotten that memo and not shared. BAD PAUL.
They plant different fields every year to let the soil recover, but some of the bulbs get missed. This is the result.
PHOTOBOMB!!
These are the obligatory “squat in the field and get a pic of your face and a sea of tulips behind you” shots
Here is some of that mud I was talking about earlier. And my awesome Target galoshes.
WARNING!! This one might shock you. But b/c of all the bending down to take pics, unfortunately this is a common scene at the tulip fields. I’m sure I’ve been an offender in the past. ***NOTE- if ever going to tulip fields, wear a LONG shirt!
Here’s something pretty to look at to help cleanse your eyes.
And another….
And one last one….
Ok, no really, last one…. I promise!!
OK Done!
Hope these have made you smile today!
Have you ever been to a tulip fest?

Yay!! I love tulips. My mom always had tons in our yard and we used them to make May Day baskets. I’ve never been to one of the huge fields though. Fun! I love the fringe-y pink ones!
So pretty! (Okay, except the butt pic
) I love the rays of sunshine in some of these!
what? You don’t like the butt pic???
LOL. I guess you are right, the sunshine is MUCH better than the butt!
Oh my goodness WOW these photos are stunning!! Very impressive and what an experience
Thanks! It really is….I think it’s something everyone should see in person!
Wow, I am highly impressive with your photography skills, missy! I never would have thought to bend down a certain way to get a good shot, or take one of the rows of tulips … very impressive work! The butt, on the other hand … now that one could have been deleted haha!!
ha! I know, its awful! Butt I couldn’t resist!!
