Movie Monday: Hanna

Hanna NZ Intl A4 v3

I saw this movie back when it came out, but Paul hadn’t seen it AND I liked it so much that we checked it out again on Friday night. (thank you Netflix)

I liked it just as much this time around.

This movie is pretty brilliant if you ask me. Great story line, great acting, suspense and KILLER music. The whole thing was done but the Chemical Brothers. It may seem a little odd for them to do a whole score to a movie, but I couldn’t get enough of the mix of their haunting beats in conjunction with the suspense of this story line.

The story centers around a girl (Saoirse Ronan) and her dad living the the frozen who-knows-where. She seems to be pretty OK with hunting animals and speaking a gazillion languages and learning how to fight from her dad. Then a mysterious box makes its way out with a mysterious button that if pushed will cause mysterious things to happen. It eventually becomes all clear, but leaves you guessing for the majority of the movie until the reveal at the end.

Eric Bana played the dad and he was solid although his accent seemed to fade and return a little too much for my liking.

Cate Blanchett was stunning as usual. Not only in her acting, but her SKIN. My goodness I could not stop looking at how amazingly porcelain like it was. She was perfectly poised, ruthless and deadly in her pursuit of young Hanna for who-knows-what reason. (Don’t worry, you know what by the end of the movie…)

Hanna Movie Cate Blanchett

No happy endings (really) in this one. A lot of people get killed, some of which you don’t expect. Some of it is ruthless, some of it makes your skin crawl. All of it is delicious suspense. I just ate it up. Both times.

Hanna

Like I mentioned before, the music really does it for me. It complimented this movie so well. Almost like a marriage of sorts. Smart and sexy and just well, well done. I don’t think this movie got near as much buzz as it should have.

If you appreciate movies as more of an art form, you will like this. If you just want mindless entertainment, maybe not so much.

I didn’t like hanna that much. The effects were super cool and I loved how the movie looked, but I didn’t like the story very much.

I guess I’m a Borne purist.

Interesting movie review! We watched Safe House this weekend with On Demand on our TV. Have you seen that one? It was good … for a boy movie haha. Lots of guns and violence, but a plot that kept me interested!
