I’m still kicking myself for not really mentioning this before we actually did it. Who doesn’t obsessively talk about the cutests 5k race of pretty much all time? Me apparently. Bad blogger!
We headed out early Sunday morning to pick up my friend Peggy who lives about a mile away from the park where the 5k was and then we walked (about a mile) from her house over to the race.
Guinness was eager with anticipation for his first race. He’s been tapering the past few days and carb loaded the night before.
Toby was also clearly excited
When we got there we were greeted with some orange bandannas and lots of butt sniffs!
We picked up our race packets and did some stretching and by stretching I mean walking around and petting pups and taking pictures of all the cuteness.

Paul was gonna run it with the Tobesters and Peggy and I were there just to walk (with Guinn) and enjoy the scenery and puppery.

Guinness was only slightly nervous at times. But he held his own like a champ. I think the bandanna gave him super power strength.
It was a beautiful walk around the perimeter of Seward Park with one beastly hill right in the middle.

That’s not the hill….just Peggy and Guinn trotting their little hearts out.

water break!! Guinn would NOT drink any water at all until later. I think he was too focused on all the other dogs around getting a PR.

Guinn and I dashing to the Finish!!! A 5 min PR for Guinn of 1:06!! (I’m totally making that up btw…just don’t tell him….)

Besties celebrating their victory!
Turns out this was a horrible race for Paul and about a 10 min PR for me.
OK, I lie…somehow Paul and I’s numbers got messed up so he was wearing mine and I was wearing his….I was all jazzed b/c I seriously thought it would be at least another year before I would see my name next to a time in the 30′s!
So all in all we ended up covering just over 5 miles for the day. If you add the 5k plus the mile to and from Peggy’s house…5 big ones. We were all pretty tired.
We stopped afterward for a celebratory Starbucks. Guinness was pumped. Lickin his chops.

But I told him he had to wait until we got home to have any. Mostly b/c I knew this would happen and I could drink it all. (I’m a mean mom)

Out like a light.
Toby was also dying from exhaustion

Doesn’t he look crazy?
About 5 hours later….

Still. Out like a light. I guess 5 miles will do that to ya!

Haha aww! This post cracked me up– I wish I could find a 5k nearby to enter Popcorn in. Although I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t make it past the first mile

are you kidding? Popcorn would ROCK it! HA! You’d be surprised how many people were carrying their dogs. Little backpacks for them and everything. They still had a blast!
Fun!!!! I can’t imagine Boyd in a 5k!! He’d be a crazy with all those dogs around!!!! Congrats to your dogs!!!

OMG absolutely love it! My frenchie Sophie would’ve made it .2 miles before lying on all fours on the concrete, hahaha. I really want to get a Weimaraner because I love the breed and because I want a true running partner. Oh, and I want another smushy french bulldog around too
