Triathlon Golf?

by eatpraytri on June 19, 2012

Ok so before I start talking about what I really want to talk about I need to talk about some other things. We’ll get there, I promise…hang with me.

First, after all the comments on yesterday’s movie review…I’m gonna get right on it and watch the first two installments of the Madagascar movies. Apparently I am missing out on lots of funnies. We can’t have that!

Second, on my way home from work yesterday I witnessed a crazy situation.

There were two cars quite a bit ahead of me and I suddenly saw some action in the road and brake lights and then a mamma deer and a baby deer in the road. The mamma crossed to the other side and I saw the baby deer cross in front of the car and NOT come out the other side. My hands instantly went to my face.

Then I saw the baby deer underneath the car wriggling around and then it popped out the back undercarriage of the car and bounded off into the woods.

By this time I had pretty much reached “the scene”.

The mamma deer came back into the road looking for her baby. She was basically right in front of my car (I was stopped). Then baby came back to the road to greet mamma and they both bounded off into the woods on the other side of the road.

The car that had rolled over baby had pulled over to the side, clearly shaken. I pulled up next to her and rolled my window down and said “he’s OK” and she gave me a thumbs up and then we all drove off.

I had to fight tears back. It could have been so much worse and I have no idea if the baby was hurt worse than it appeared but it was quite the “experience” on a otherwise boring drive home!

___________

Ok, now on to the weekend shenanigans that went down at the Wolfe abode. Paul did a triathlon this weekend! And we went golfing! And we went to a movie! And out to dinner! We live awesome lives. That is when we aren’t sleeping and being boring working or sitting on the couch. :)

The reasons why I haven’t signed up for a triathlon this summer are many (of which I may or may not discuss in a later post) Paul has caught the bug and signed up for the Triple Threat Triathlon series that takes place on Ft. Lewis.

We headed there early on Saturday morning to cheer him on! (I’m trying to get him to write a guest post about his experience so I will save most of the pictures for that…honey…you have to do it now…the people WANT pictures!!)

I was very relieved they did not allow smoking pets on the grounds. I mean really….smoking pets while people are trying to do a triathlon is very annoying so I’m glad they were strict on this one.

There were two options for the swim. 250 meters (green caps) or 800 (orange caps). Paul chose the lesser because swimming is his weakest of the three.

out of the water and on to the bike!

He rocked the bike, its def his strongest of the three. He loves biking too so that probably helps. :)

Off to run! He had a little bit of a tough run but I will leave that to him to tell you about….

Photo 35

Kyle met him at the end and ran him into the finish at 1:26:07!!

This was Paul’s second triathlon overall and first of three this summer! I can’t wait for the next one to cheer him on again!

And hopefully next time I won’t break my camera. :( I dropped my little point and shoot in between the bike and the run and it is DUN. Its stuck in this position and it looks like something inside the lens is cracked too. I’ve had this camera ever since 2007 (it was my first digital) and its done me right. I guess I need to look for a new one! Anyone have any suggestions???

After we got home and did some glorious napping we met up with some friends for a Par 3 round of golf! I got to break in my new shoes and my new hat!

We had SO MUCH FUN. I got par on two holes and shot an 8 on one hole. So basically a typical day of golf.

Photo 9

I love par 3 courses b/c you can finish in about two hours and still feel like you played golf. And its harder than mini golf so you feel grown up.

“art” shot.

Paul decided to go all Tiger Woods on us and be impressive. He hit the ball a few times hackysack style and then hit the ball down into the fairway. It pretty much looked like this without all the fancy in between the legs stuff.

It was WAY awesome and we totally failed getting video of it. He tried to repeat it but to no avail. I am glad I witnessed it though b/c I probably wouldn’t have believed it otherwise.

We had a very serious conversation about creating a new competitive sport of triathlon golf where you have to swim laps, bike or run before each hole. I’m thinking we might be on to something…..

****Don’t forget…this Saturday is the first official 23PAWS!! Get your post ready to link up!!*******

I’ve done tons of tris in all distances–sprint to half ironman and I love them…almost as much as I love plain ole running races ;-) It’s been awhile since I did one but I’m actually planning on doing a sprint tri this weekend just as a good workout. I’ve been mainly running this past year but I think I can definitely pull out the sprint distance no prob. My time won’t be that great but oh well :-)

wow that is so awesome! I’ve only done two sprints and I hope to do many more. I think olympic distance would be a good goal for me next year. I can’t even fathom doing a half ironman. The 1/2 marathon is daunting enough…forget adding the bike an swim on top of it! :) Good luck this weekend!!!

Camera, do you want another point and shoot?

Get the Nikon Coolpix p310. Get it on Amazon (best price around). I just bought one after doing TONS of research. I wanted something that would take as good pictures as my DSLR and this one’s awesome. All the pics on my blog since Friday have been with the little guy… straight out of the box. I haven’t even read the manual yet.

OK… that video was really Paul masquerading as Tiger Woods, right?

I like the triathlon golf idea. That just might catch on!

Triathlon golf, sounds similar to chess boxing, look it up.

In terms of point an shoot, I have been using Canon ELPH models for a few years now and have been happy with them. Most important to me is the size, if I can’t keep it in my pocket comfortably, then I won’t use it. The newer models take pretty good pictures and also record 1080 HD video, which is also nice. I currently have the 300, but would not mind upgrading to the 530.

Gah that situation would have shaken me up as well. I hate seeing those things and knowing you have no power to stop it. What a cool race!

It’s so cute that you guys like to golf together. My husband loves golfing … and I do not. Every once and a while, I’ll go hit some balls with him at the driving range, or I’ll ride in the golf cart with him while he’s golfing. But golf is just not my thing!

i totally fell in love with it years ago when I went out with my dad and my uncle. There is just something for me about being out in the open with the grass and nature. Its just relaxing to me and I can not get enough. When I knew Paul was into it too…swoon!! :)
