This movie was successful at three things:
1) Grossing me out
2) being visually stunning
3) being highly confusing
Paul and I went down to the Cinerama on Fathers Day to check out this new Ridley Scott film that is (or is not…no one really is admitting it knows) a prequel to Alien.

There is the chocolate popcorn I talked about the other day.
We both enjoyed this movie, but at the same time we had a LOT of questions about it. I actually kept thinking about it days afterward which is either a sign of a truly great movie OR a movie that has a lot of holes in it that you keep trying to plug by thinking about it harder (never works…btw…)
If you have read any of my past movie reviews, I’m not typical. I don’t usually talk a lot about the premise or plot of the movie and don’t like to go into too much detail about what actually happened. I like to focus mostly on my experience and general observations and hope you can glean enough out of that to determine whether or not you might want to see it.
However, this movie is a struggle because I REALLY want to talk about the (what I deem to be ) very obvious plot holes and inconsistencies that were scattered about.
BUT, I’m going to resist. Go see it (if you haven’t already) and then maybe I will come back in a few weeks and post some of my questions/observations and we can talk it out. Maybe not. We will see.
Overall, this movie was visually stunning with fantastic effects.
The action was intense and the acting was pretty spot on as well. I agree with most other reviewers that Michael Fassbender stole the show.
In typical Alien fashion, the gross out/scary scenes did not disappoint.
There were some very heavy themes in this movie about where we came from and what is the point of life. There was an intensive search for the “why” which I felt could have been very promising, but in the end we were left hollow and with the same questions we had at the beginning.
More than anything, its disappointing that a movie this hyped had such a poor story-line that was filled with holes. BUT it was fun to look at. Well, when I wasn’t being grossed out anyway.
Overall rating: Medium popcorn, medium drink

I think your reactions to Prometheus are common. I was just having this conversation with a few coworkers of mine at Dish and we all agreed that the movie was good but very confusing! When I wasn’t white knuckling my arm rest, I was either sitting with a gaping mouth at the visuals or with my eye brows raised in confusion. I wish I could have rewinded a few scenes for clarification. Then again, there are a few scenes that I wish I could’ve fast forwarded. The scene with the surgical pod is still giving me shivers! Having control of the remote is the reason why I usually just skip the theaters and wait for movies to come out on DVD. Then I can just get it mailed to me through my Blockbuster@Home service I get through my Dish account; that way I can also ensure I’ll be able to put my feet up. I can never get comfortable in those theater chairs if someone is sitting right in front of me!
I’m sure I wouldn’t like this movie but I’m positive I would LOVE that chocolate popcorn!

I would say its not really that scary per se….just more kind of gruesome in some parts. But no real JUMP moments. Go see it and then make him go see a girly movie with you!
Okay so funny that you say it’s a prequel to Alien, when I saw the pre-view before another movie, that’s totally what I thought it was.
I love alien, by the way. And Independence day… anything with aliens and the end of the world.

You will love it then! Go see it!!
I felt the same way, so gross, so gross. But altogether kind of a bizarre creative movie, it got me thinking for sure.

YES! I thought about it forever….
Hahaha I like your rating system! That’s awesome. I’ve heard different things about prometheus… I’m tempted, but I’ll probably wait until it gets to the second-run theater by my house, so if I don’t like it, it’s only $2 down

I think that is a really smart idea. I would probably even see it again for $2…maybe I can answer some of the questions I have.
And thanks for the kudos on my rating system, sometimes I think its too complicated, but I like it so I’m stickin with it!
