So remember last week when I said Looper would probably be in my top 5 movies from this year? Yea will this one DEFINITELY will be.
(side note….why is it that I can NEVER spell definitely correct the first time? I mean like NEVER. Its my arch nemesis when it comes to words.)
I was slightly hesitant the first time I saw the preview. It seemed like a serious, action packed movie that tackled emotional subjects like hostages, national security and foreign relations. But then there was something about some hollywood people making a fake movie to try and get hostages out? Seemed a little hokey at first. But the next few times I saw the previews I started to warm up to the idea. This could be a really interesting premise. And they say its based on a true story? Hmmm…yep we are gonna have to give this one a go.
From beginning to end this one keeps you on your toes. Great suspense, good action, bad bad guys and some John Goodman humor mixed in. It really has everything. Well except maybe a love story weaved in. And honestly there is a little bit of that as well although it is not a major part of the movie.
Ben Affleck was great. I think he has really settled into his true calling in directing. His last few have been pretty darn good with this one topping all of them in my opinion. And Gone Baby Gone was stellar so that says a lot.
Ben seemed to start big in his career and then take a pretty severe dip there for a while but with his reemergence in Hollywoodland, The Company Men and The Town (which he also directed) he has found his sweet spot. Hopefully he can keep up with it and bring us more gems like this one.
You know who else is in this? Walter White. errr…I mean Bryan Cranston. I feel like he is in everything these days. He was even in Madagascar 3. Love it.
If you don’t know what Argo is about, I encourage you to go here. That will sum it up for you. Or you can just go see it. I would recommend that. Yep, do that.
Minor language throughout so might not be good for the young’ns but the story is so interesting and well executed that I can do nothing but highly recommend this movie. I think I might be sniffing Oscar talk as well on this one….
